Telling Kentucky's Story

Government Shutdown and Kentucky Humanities

You are well aware that the federal government shutdown, now the longest in U.S. history, has many repercussions, some immediate and direct, others long-term and gradual. One of these is the curtailment of operations of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), which provides the lion's share of funding for Kentucky Humanities and the many programs we provide throughout the state.

Kentucky Humanities remains open; staff is reporting to the office each day to provide programs and services to you as we have for the past 46 years. However, new program initiatives and the awarding of grants for museums and public humanities events has been halted. We are being very conservative in our spending for existing programs. In the event of an extended shutdown, we will keep you updated on the availability of program funds and grants.

We appreciate your partnership and support and look forward to our continued work together.
